Monitoring of the SRS by VeriSign GRS has revealed that some registrars may be employing, or allowing their systems to be used to employ, automated processes to conduct a high volume of ADD domain transactions in a very short period of time without first conducting CHECK commands. This results in a large percentage of failed add activity, which causes degraded SRS response times for all registrars.

As a practical matter, a CHECK command is significantly more efficient for you and your customers than an ADD command. Therefore, a registrar attempting to register 1000 names issuing CHECK commands first, will be able to complete that task in a fraction of the time it will take another registrar who only issues ADD commands. Accordingly, the registrar who uses CHECK commands is much more likely to obtain the names they seek in a timely fashion.

In addition, registrars that use high volume, automated ADD domain transactions are at risk of being held in violation of the Registrar License and Agreement (RL&A). Be advised that VeriSign GRS will be monitoring this situation closely and will take any and all action permitted under the RL&A in an effort to maintain and preserve the integrity and success of the SRS for all registrars.
